Mariska Hargitay expresses her love for Christopher Meloni’s ‘Law and Order’ series

Mariska Hargitay has revealed that she was moved to tears after watching Christopher Meloni’s emotional response to the cancellation of Law and order: organized crime, describing it as the closing of an important chapter for her co-star and lifelong friend.

talking to ExtraHargitay said she saw Meloni’s Instagram video of the show ending and was immediately overwhelmed.

“I saw it and, first of all, I started crying,” she said.

“I immediately started crying because, like [Meloni] he said, and it was very beautiful and open, because it has been a great journey. And it’s been so beautiful and intimate and such a life-changing part of his life.”

He also said that the news was a real shock.

“Chris is working, he’s in demand, and he’s a wonderful actor. But in a way, it’s closing a chapter. So when that happens, you need to take inventory. It’s a real milestone in your life.”

Law & Order: Organized Crime was officially canceled after five seasons earlier this month.

Meloni marked the occasion with an emotional video on Instagram.

“I wanted to take this moment to thank the fans who not only helped bring life and longevity to the character of Elliot Stabler, but also for sticking with him and welcoming him back. It was a good ride,” he said.

The series, which premiered in 2021, followed Stabler, the character Meloni first played. Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, when he returned to New York after a decade away to rebuild his life and confront organized crime.

It was broadcast on NBC during its first four seasons before moving on to Peacock for its fifth and final season, which concluded in June 2025.

The cast also included Danielle Moné Truitt, Rick González, Ainsley Seiger and Dean Norris.
