Richard Gadd faced a challenging task when he began working on his next show after baby reindeerthat swept the awards season.
However, the 36-year-old Scottish actor and writer did not get carried away by people’s good or bad opinions about his art, because he believes that good art will never, ever be created that way.
The Emmy winner is exploring something similar regarding the themes of toxic masculinity in his upcoming show. half manwhere he plays Ruben and Jamie Bell plays Niall, two estranged stepbrothers who bring out each other’s violent tendencies.
In a new interview, Gadd shared that when baby reindeer went viral, he didn’t want to give himself “time to think.”
“I wrote an episode [of Half Man] in 2019, and I archived it for four four years while I was doing it baby reindeer. “I knew I was going to do this next,” he shared at a recent Television Critics Association press conference.
For his next show, Gadd took complete liberty to touch on all extremes, because otherwise he would “rob the audience of the truth of this big issue that we’re dealing with right now, as a society,” he said.
At the same conference, he also praised Adolescence for its themes that challenged the audience. “We like to face our own demons and watch them on television.”
