In a unique robbery, six armed robbers, posing as K-Electric employees, ransacked a substation of an apartment building in Gulshan-e-Iqbal and escaped with valuable equipment from an electrical substation, police said on Sunday.

The robbery occurred in Block 13-E during the early hours of Sunday. The suspects arrived in a mini truck and a car, dressed in company uniforms, safety helmets and jackets to pose as K-Electric personnel.

Police said the suspects tied the building’s security guard and his son to chairs and tortured them during the robbery. They then removed copper electrical cables, transformer bushings for the LT panel, bus bars, circuit breakers and other valuable items from the substation.

Residents said the suspects fled after a citizen tried to film the incident with his cellphone video.

Police collected CCTV footage along with other evidence. SHO Saud said the robbery took place between 7am and 8am and continued for almost an hour. Preliminary investigation revealed that the truck used in the crime had been stolen from the DHA police station limits. Police launched a search operation with the help of CCTV footage and expressed hope that the suspects would be arrested soon.

Rs 647,000 looted from milk shop

Thieves made away with Rs 647,000 in cash and two mobile phones during a robbery at a milk shop in Gulshan-e-Iqbal.

According to police, four suspects were involved in the crime, one of them stood guard outside while his three accomplices entered the store and carried out the robbery.

Police said the suspects were armed and had hidden their faces with helmets and cloth to avoid being identified. After committing the crime, they managed to escape unharmed. CCTV footage of the incident has emerged showing the suspects’ movements during the robbery.

A case has been registered following the complaint of the concerned trader, while the police have launched efforts to locate and arrest the suspects.

Around a dozen armed robbers riding motorcycles barged into a market in Samanabad area of ​​Federal Area B and fled after looting cash and mobile phones from several butcher shops.

The incident took place in Block 17, where between 11 and 12 robbers broke into a market brandishing guns and attacked at least seven shops, including chicken, beef and mutton shops. The suspects robbed the traders of cash worth hundreds of thousands of rupees and mobile phones.

Police said the robbers managed to escape towards Gulberg Chorangi without resistance. The suspects were reportedly wearing helmets similar to those used by online cyclists to conceal their identity.

SHO of Samanabad police station Rao Shahid said that a case has been registered following the complaint of an affected shopkeeper, while efforts are on to obtain CCTV footage from the area.
