- Dreame demonstrated a refrigerator concept at its exhibition in San Francisco
- It uses AI to scan and sort food, with a robotic arm to organize items.
- It also scans your smartwatch and fingerprints to recognize you and give you personalized nutritional advice.
Maybe it’s because I’m in the process of buying a house and want to buy my own appliances for the first time, but Dreame’s high-tech refrigerator with AI-powered nutritional tracking is not only one of the best things I’ve seen so far at the Dreame Next product showcase, it’s also the most disturbing.
I’m here in San Francisco to take a look at all the smart home tech the brand is developing, and while Dreame has shown off this futuristic refrigerator before, I’m particularly interested in the way it uses your health data.
The refrigerator itself sounds pretty impressive, with a robotic arm that will properly sort food into the right chambers, cameras that will track the freshness of the food, and an AI system to help you find recipes to use items before they go bad. There is also a water dispenser that can carbonate water to serve sparkling.

However, I’m more intrigued by the way it determines who opens it by scanning their face, fingerprints, or smart wearable devices. Once you know who you are, you can use the health data from your scale, smart watch, or smart ring (plus information about what’s in your refrigerator) to find recipes that will help you reach your health goals.
All of this is apparently handled privately through a collaboration with Google Cloud, allowing the refrigerator to identify over 10,000 ingredients with over 97% accuracy and not compromise your personal information when offering dietary advice.
It’s all fascinating, but I’m not sure I want to have a critical refrigerator in my kitchen. I also don’t love the idea of it having my biometric information or my health data, even though it could arguably help with my eating habits.
Dreame doesn’t have a price or release date for this refrigerator, but even as just a concept, it looks like the way smart home technology will evolve as brands like Dreame and Samsung promote AI-powered interconnection between our various devices.
Let’s hope the final form of this integration doesn’t seem invasive; Otherwise, I might prefer to stick with the dumbest refrigerator I can find.
