Stray bullets put lives at risk throughout the city

At least 40 people, including women, children and the elderly, were injured during April after being hit by stray bullets.

KARACHI:

The uncontrolled use of firearms in the city continues to endanger the lives of citizens, who feel unsafe both on the streets and even inside their homes due to bullets fired from unknown directions.

According to a report, at least 40 people – including women, children and the elderly – were injured during the month of April 2026 in different areas of the metropolis after being hit by stray bullets. The alarming number of incidents highlights not only the widespread availability of weapons but also their indiscriminate and illegal use, raising serious questions about the performance of law enforcement.

Police data indicates that these incidents occurred in multiple localities including Lyari, Orangi Town, New Karachi, Liaquatabad, Korangi, Nazimabad, Baldia Town and others. The victims ranged from children as young as 12 to people over 70 years old, many of whom were run over in their homes, on the roads or in public places.
