Palace Stock Update Following Trump’s Surprise Tariff Announcement

President Donald Trump personally bid farewell to Washington’s King Charles and Queen Camilla on Thursday with a surprise announcement about tariffs.

The king, 77, landed in Bermuda for a solo royal tour just hours after the US president announced the removal of tariffs on Scotch whisky, a decision he attributed directly to the intervention of the royal couple.

Mark Kent, chief executive of the Scotch Whiskey Association, said “distillers can breathe a little easier” following the announcement.

Before leaving, the King and Queen expressed their gratitude to the United States via an X message, writing: “We left a piece of our hearts and took a little of yours home. Until next time, God bless America.”

The royal family posted clips of the King and Queen’s historic trip to the United States on their official Instagram account.

The palace wrote: “Looking back on so many special memories of a state visit to the United States in celebration of the 250th anniversary of American Independence.”

In Bermuda, the King visited the Keep Yard and watched the Gombey National Dance Group perform alongside the audience.

This traditional Bermuda dance form represents one of the island’s most distinctive cultural expressions. The day’s engagements concluded with a garden party at Government House, which brought together guests representing a broad spectrum of Bermuda society.
