The prime minister orders to rationalize electricity rates

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, while chairing a meeting on power sector reforms on Saturday, directed the authorities concerned to formulate a comprehensive strategy to stabilize electricity tariffs.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister highlighted the need to provide relief to both industrial and domestic electricity consumers and directed the concerned officials to take concrete steps in this regard. He also called for significant improvements to the power transmission system to reduce losses on the lines.

Highlighting the importance of modernization, the prime minister highlighted the use of advanced technology in the energy sector and ordered the promotion of renewable energy projects to address the country’s energy deficit. He further underlined the need to improve digital facilities to make electricity bill payments more convenient for consumers.

The Prime Minister ordered to continue strict measures against electricity theft and reiterated that uninterrupted power supply is essential to promote industrial growth. He stated that providing relief to domestic consumers remains one of the government’s top priorities.

He added that reforms in the energy sector would be implemented taking into account the broader interests of the public and industry. During the meeting, officials presented recommendations on electricity consumption for both domestic users and the industrial sector.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Muhammad Ishaq Dar, Minister of Finance Muhammad Aurangzeb, Minister of Economic Affairs Ahad Khan Cheema, Minister of Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, Minister of Energy Sardar Awais Ahmed Khan Leghari, Minister of Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik, Minister of State for Finance Bilal Azhar Kayani, Special Assistant Haroon Akhtar and senior officials of institutions relevant.

Home Minister Mohsin Naqvi

Home Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Saturday called on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and briefed him about the security situation in the country, the Prime Minister’s Office said.

According to the PMO statement, Naqvi met the Prime Minister in Lahore, where he briefed him about the security situation in the country and the measures taken in this regard.

The Home Minister also briefed the Prime Minister about the security arrangements for the Pakistan Super League (PSL) final to be held tomorrow (Sunday) in Lahore.

Chief Minister Shehbaz directed Naqvi to make the best possible arrangements for the players, spectators and citizens.
