- 32GB of RAM is a “worry-free zone” for gamers, says Microsoft
- Users are not happy, especially with the current price of memory.
- The article has since disappeared, which is perhaps for the best.
How much RAM is enough for your Windows 11 gaming PC? It’s an old debate, but Microsoft has briefly recommended 32GB as the “worry-free zone” level, if you plan to do some multitasking alongside your actual games.
We say this briefly, because the article mentioning 32 GB of RAM has now been removed from the Windows Learning Center, although not before Windows Latest and several other outlets discovered the new advice for gamers.
Perhaps Microsoft’s marketing team realized that recommending 32GB of RAM wasn’t the best idea during the current RAM crisis, when demand for AI data centers is driving prices to ridiculously expensive levels.

The reaction on Reddit certainly hasn’t been kind: “the only concern is your budget,” one poster jokes, while another says “the right amount of RAM for Windows 11 is to install Linux” (a sentiment that appears to be widely shared online).
Worried or not worried?
Microsoft says 32GB of RAM is the “worry-free” upgrade for Windows 11 gaming from r/technology
To be fair to Microsoft, the now-removed document said that 16GB of RAM was still the baseline for gamers, and the recommended RAM for Windows 11 is still 8GB. What is really new is the uncomfortable phrase.
The unspoken implication of labeling 32GB as the “worry-free zone” is that gamers who spend a lot of time in their browser, checking Discord, or live streaming content while gaming should worry if they only have 16GB installed.
To some extent, it’s all semantics, but as prices continue to skyrocket upwards, affecting every company in the industry, it may not be the best idea to push 32GB of RAM as the new normal, especially when your own AI Copilot is contributing to the memory shortage.
Reddit is full of requests for Microsoft to take care of optimizing RAM usage in Windows 11 instead of advising customers to buy more memory, although there are also complaints about the glut of Discord and modern AAA games.
