Duchess of Gloucester opens historic diagnostic center transforming healthcare

The Duchess of Gloucester marked a major milestone in healthcare on the Isle of Wight.

On Friday 1 May 2026, we officially opened a state-of-the-art Community Diagnostic Center at St Mary’s Hospital in Newport.

During his visit, he toured the purpose-built facilities, which have already begun to transform access to vital scans, tests and health checks for island residents.

The Duchess met staff across the center and heard first-hand how expanded diagnostic capacity and simplified care pathways are reducing waiting times and improving outcomes.

Received by senior leaders from Isle of Wight NHS Trust, including chair Jenni Douglas-Todd and chief strategy officer Michelle Stanley.

A particularly significant moment came when the Duchess met members of the Isle of Wight Youth Forum, who have worked alongside pediatric teams to shape the design and atmosphere of children’s emergency facilities.

The visit concluded with the unveiling of a commemorative plaque that officially marks the opening of the Community Diagnostic Center.
