The Islamabad High Court has reduced the death sentences of two convicts in the Osama Satti murder case to life imprisonment and acquitted three others.

The court announced its verdict on the appeals presented by the five convicts.

Justices Mohsin Akhtar Kayani and Sardar Ejaz Ishaq Khan presided over the bench that issued the decision.

Convicts Iftikhar Ahmed and Muhammad Mustafa had their death sentences commuted to life imprisonment, while Saeed Ahmed, Shakeel Ahmed and Mudassir Mukhtar were acquitted of all charges.

The case involved the shooting death of Osama Satti, a young man killed by police officers. The convicted officers had previously challenged their sentences, leading to the high court’s review of the ruling.

On January 2, 2021, around 2 am, Osama had gone to drop off his friend at Sector H-11. When he was returning, police officers intercepted his vehicle in Sector G-10 of the Srinagar Highway and fired at him from all sides.

Police claimed they had attempted to stop a suspicious vehicle with tinted windows and opened fire when the driver did not stop.

The incident spread like wildfire on the microblogging site as microbloggers criticized the “police brutality” and the “fake encounter”.
