Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, episode 8 premiered on Disney+, and not only does it close out the show’s final chapter in typically tense fashion, but it also sets up some intriguing storylines to come in its already announced third season.
So how does the second season of the Marvel television series end? What about Matt Murdock, Wilson Fisk and Karen Page? And what can we take away from that about what to expect from season 3, which is filming as we speak? I’ll answer those questions and more below. This is your only warning, then: Full spoilers follow immediately. for Daredevil: Born AgainThe end of season 2.
How does Karen Page’s trial end in Daredevil: Born Again season 2, episode 8?
With Karen’s freedom still at stake after Daredevil: Born Again In Season 2, Episode 7, Matt Murdock, also known as the titular hero’s civilian identity, continues his defense as Page’s attorney, along with co-counsel Kirsten McDuffie.
Article continues below.
The trial unfolds as expected, with both sides trading verbal blows and twisting every piece of evidence in their favor to gain the advantage.
Finally, Murdock uses the first of two tricks up his sleeve: calling none other than his archenemy and New York City mayor, Wilson Fisk, to the witness stand.
As gasps echo through the courtroom, Fisk, who, in a show of force, brings with him the full power of his Anti-Vigilance Task Force (AVTF), enters the chamber and takes the stand to say he will tell the truth and nothing but the truth.
As expected, Murdock’s intense interrogation of Fisk further heightens the tension. Murdock provides plenty of evidence that Fisk was responsible for the Northern Star, his massive shipment of weapons, the death of his first and second partner when Daredevil, aka Matt’s vigilante alter ego, discovered said shipment. and the shipwreck and sinking of the freighter when Fisk realized that his criminal activities could be exposed. In response, Fisk denies all knowledge of these claims.
Despite the evidence he has provided, Murdock quickly realizes that he is losing. In fact, the judges (who, fearing for their own lives, are in Fisk’s back pocket) are clearly not swayed by Murdock’s evidence.
It’s here that Murdock makes his second Hail Mary pass: he publicly reveals that he is Daredevil. The reason? As the only other person to see firsthand Fisk’s black market weapons supplies aboard the Northern Star in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 episode 1, it’s the kind of testimony that can’t be ignored.
As a stunned courtroom is left reeling from this revelation, the aforementioned judges belatedly find their courage and rule in Murdock’s favor, dismissing the case with prejudice and allowing Page to walk free.
Is Wilson Fisk still mayor of New York City at the end of Daredevil: Born Again season two?
No. Not only is he dethroned by the climax of this season, but he has also been exiled from the United States.
After Murdock introduces himself as the devil of Hell’s Kitchen, an outraged Fisk heads out of the court with his allies. There, he is stopped by Governor McCaffrey, who informs him that the Attorney General has filed several charges, including extortion, smuggling, and attempted murder of McCaffrey in the penultimate episode of this season. Additionally, its monetary assets have been frozen and its port of Red Hook is now under government control.
Murdock and his charges soon arrive on the scene and, as the parties begin to exchange verbal blows, Bullseye, who is still searching for Fisk’s head, launches an attack with a sniper rifle from a building across from the courthouse.
As panic spreads through the lobby, Fisk and his supporters flee and barricade themselves in a courtroom. From there, Fisk delivers a war-style speech, one broadcast live from said courtroom, to sow further division among the residents of New York. However, as soon as the live broadcast ends, BB Urich broadcasts her final video as the satirized version of Fisk, with the investigative journalist asking the citizens of New York to oppose the autocratic mayor and force him from office.
A beleaguered and defiant Fisk sends his AVTF troops to prevent Daredevil’s supporters, who have gathered outside the courthouse, from entering and to locate Murdock and Page, who have also barricaded themselves in a nearby office.
In the chaos that follows, Murdock as Daredevil, with the help of his superhuman companions Jessica Jones and Angela del Toro, aka White Tiger 2.0, eliminates the AVTF officers sent to them. Meanwhile, ATVF enforcer Cole North leads a mutiny against field leader Conner Powell when the latter threatens to shoot Daredevil supporters outside the courthouse and lets said supporters into the building.
With the walls closing in around him and two calls from the Attorney General telling him to resign as mayor and renounce his American citizenship to avoid prosecution, Fisk loses his cool. Ordering the courtroom to open, a bloodthirsty Fisk sets out to meet Daredevil’s followers, severely injuring or killing those who stand in his way.
Arriving in the lobby where Murdock, Page, Jones, and Del Toro now stand facing Daredevil’s army of vigilantes, Fisk refuses to give in, causing followers to rush up the stairs toward him as the aforementioned quartet pleads with their allies not to do so.
Fisk begins to fight the crowd, but is soon overwhelmed. Fearing that he will be torn apart, Murdock (again, with the help of Jones) reaches Fisk and, lashing out at his followers, tells them that they are better than this.
Turning to his archenemy, Murdock reasons with Fisk and implores him to accept the Attorney General’s deal. Initially hesitant, Fisk soon realizes that it is the only option (other than another prison sentence, at least) available to him and reluctantly agrees to the terms.
Why is Matt Murdock arrested and imprisoned in the season 2 finale of Daredevil: Born Again?
Having overthrown Fisk, Murdock and Page enjoy a romantic dinner at the Panna II restaurant after winning a tough battle. There they talk about trying to have a normal life and they agree to try.
But their joy is short-lived, because members of the New York Police Department appear. Accusing Murdock of all the crimes he has committed as a masked crime fighter (remember, Murdock was publicly revealed as the hero of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) earlier in this episode, and has committed numerous crimes as his alter ego), they arrest him and imprison him in the same penitentiary as the AVTF members they have detained.
Does anyone die in the final episode of Daredevil: Born Again season 2?
Some AVTF officers and Daredevil supporters do so, but no one who is part of the main cast of the Marvel Phase 6 television show dies.
Of their ensemble, Arty Froushan’s Buck Cashman is the only one who nearly loses his life: Fisk’s right-hand man and fixer takes a bullet to the abdomen from Bullseye during the courtroom entrance scene.
However, although his fate is left up in the air when the final credits of season 2 roll, we know that he survives, because Froushan has already confirmed that he will return in born again season 3. Unless his only appearance next season is in an open casket, we’ll see Cashman again in the not-too-distant future.
Does Spider-Man appear in the eighth episode of season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again?
No. It’s been explained countless times before but, for those who don’t know, Sony owns the live-action rights to Spider-Man and all the characters that operate in his circle. Marvel and Disney, then, are not legally allowed to use the iconic webslinger in any live-action projects without Sony’s permission.
Sony and Marvel have a years-long partnership that allows Peter Parker to exist in the MCU, but it’s one that only allows Tom Holland’s wall-crawler to appear in Marvel’s big-screen cinematic juggernaut. As such, Spidey cannot make a cameo in Marvel’s Disney+ productions, which is why he did not appear in born again season 1 or its sequel.
Fortunately, it won’t be long until we see Holland’s hero again. His next solo film, Spider-Man: New Daywill hit theaters on July 31 and, depending on who you listen to, might even somehow include a cameo from Charlie Cox’s Murdock. For more information on one of the most anticipated new movies of 2026, find out everything we know so far. Spider-Man: New Day.
Does the Daredevil: Born Again season 2 finale have a mid-credits or post-credits scene?
No. Unless you count the epilogue as an end credits sequence, there are no mid- or post-credits moments to linger for. Don’t expect a ridiculously early tease to born again Season 3, then. Speaking of which…
Does Daredevil: Born Again season 3 have a premiere date?
Not yet. However, filming for the third installment of the series began in early March, so production is already underway.
Great, but when could season 3 be released on Disney+, aka one of the best streaming services? Its two ancestors will be released in March 2025 and March 2026, so the smart money is on. Daredevil: Born Again Season 3 will be out next March. That’s my best guess, anyway.
What do we know so far about Daredevil: Born Again season 3?
Not much. However, speaking on an episode of the official Daredevil: Born Again podcast, executive producer Sana Amanat explained that, like its predecessors, season 3 will still be based on the comic book stories Mayor Fisk and Devil in Cell Block D. And, with Murdock behind bars at the end of season 2, episode 8, at least we know that the next season will begin with him serving time for his crimes.
Additionally, official photos of Jessica Jones were taken on the set of Season 3, along with other heroes who first appeared in Netflix’s Marvel-Verse, including Luke Cage and Danny Rand/Iron Fist. It’s clear, then, that the next installment in the series will be a reunion of sorts for the Defenders.
As to why they will work together again, I can’t say. However, considering it took this quartet and their allies to defeat the criminal organization known as The Hand on Netflix. The defenders crossover show, I wouldn’t be surprised if they team up to defeat new enemies to fill the power vacuum left by Fisk.
