Red Sox broadcast criticizes Framber Valdez for ‘weak’ move that pierces Trevor Story

Stop the pressure: the Boston Red Sox have won two games in a row. That’s how it is. One more win today and that will be something we call a “winning streak.” Watch out, MLB!

Of course, Boston’s latest win over the Detroit Tigers didn’t come without some serious drama. It’s 2026. It seems like there’s always drama in Boston this year.

The Sox absolutely crushed Detroit, 10-3, on Tuesday night in a game that was a source of laughter from the start. Boston jumped on Tigers pitcher Framber Valdez all night, hitting three home runs and hitting him for 10 runs in three-plus innings. Oh.

Valdez’s fourth and final inning is where things really went wrong. He allowed a mammoth home run to Wilson Contreras to start the inning, and then another to Wilyer Abreu. The third batter of the inning, Trevor Story, took a belt to the back on Valdez’s first pitch.

And that’s when things took off:

NESN booth destroys Valdez, with good reason

“You can’t get them out, so you throw them. What a joke. The only guy who caused this is hiding in the back,” said NESN analyst Will Middlebrooks.

“That’s weak,” Dave O’Brien added, play-by-play. “You give up three home runs, back-to-back shots, and then you work out Trevor Story.”

And, just to take it all home:

“Well, let’s hope he doesn’t piss off his receiver now that he’s pissed,” Middlebrooks said.

I mean, just a blowout from the Red Sox…and their broadcast team! Finally, this team is showing some FIGHT this season. It only took six weeks. Better late than never, I think.

Obviously, this was intentional. Valdez tried to play dumb after the game when asked about it, but come on. Stevie Wonder knew he hit Trevor Story on purpose. It’s the oldest trick in the book.

You’ve been shaken all night. You gave up 10 (!!!) races before the fans got to their seats. Wilson Contreras stuck his to the moon and threw his bat to the front row.

So naturally, someone is getting hit. That someone turned out to be Trevor Story, right in the middle of the numbers on the back. That’s Pitching 101.

As for the Red Sox broadcast team criticizing Valdez, I don’t blame them either. Will Middlebrooks is a former Major League Baseball player. He’s seen it all. He’s not shy at the NESN or WEEI booth, nor should he be. Say what you think! That’s why you’re there.

That’s why we want professional athletes in the booth. I want to hear what they think when something like this happens, so I can make sure what I’m thinking is right.

Now, I didn’t really need that confirmation in this case, but it was still nice to have it.

The Red Sox, by the way, never retaliated. I would hope that would change today.
