Thick black smoke is seen near MetLife Stadium, site of the FIFA World Cup final.
This raises concerns that the place is on fire. But officials confirm there is no fire at the stadium.
The smoke came from a large two-alarm fire that occurred at a warehouse located on Washington Avenue in Carlstadt, which is a small community located less than three miles from the New York Jets and Giants football stadiums.
Local police were alerted to the fire at 9:50 a.m. ET. Fire departments dispatched to the scene included Wallington Engine Co. 202, popularly known as “The Hotshots.” The fire is currently stated to be under control and no injuries have been reported so far.
Photos circulating on social media made it appear, from certain angles, that smoke was rising from the 82,500-seat stadium.
The venue will host 8 matches, including the final. The first match of the World Cup is scheduled for June 13, between Brazil and Morocco in Group C.
Recently, the authorities have installed a natural grass field at the stadium.
