Dexter: Resurrection season 2: is there a release date?
No. Dexter: resurrection The second season is officially in production. The show’s star, Michael C. Hall, took to Instagram in April to reveal that they were returning to filming: “It’s happening. We have exciting returning and new guest stars. And another exciting journey is planned. We’re excited to do it and look forward to sharing it with you.”
The news comes after the show’s renewal announcement in October, which has garnered more than 10 million views on Instagram. Really, it’s no surprise that Dexter is coming back for more.
In terms of release date, the first season took six months to film and came out a month later. If we use that to predict when the second season will arrive, I’d say we’re looking at a possible late 2026 release.

- James Remar as Harry
- Uma Thurman as Charley
- Desmond Harrington as Joey Quinn

Great news! Brian Cox joins as a series regular, answering one of the big questions that’s been on our minds since season 1: who is the New York Ripper? Well, it’s Cox, if you hadn’t already guessed. According to Deadline: “Cox will play Don Frampt, the New York Ripper, a serial killer who terrorized the city years ago.
“Although he is no longer an active killer, he has found a new way to live out his infamy by continuing to mock the survivors of his long-ago killing spree.”
And there are not one, but two big killers coming to season two, with Dan Stevens joining as the Five Borough Killer. Because if there’s one thing Dexter needs more of, it’s serial killers, right?
Deadline explains: “He will play Owen Stark, a serial killer who, like Zodiac, taunts the police with phone calls threatening to murder innocent citizens. When he follows through with his horrific deeds… the city and the police are terrified.”
And in April, Variety exclusively revealed that both Bokeem Woodbine and Nona Parker Johnson had been cast in series regular roles. Johnson as Fiona Mixon, “a training officer in the Homicide unit and a nepo-baby in the police world and Harrison’s new love interest.” Woodbine will play Captain Mixon, “a bulldog homicide captain and Fiona’s father.”
Dexter: Resurrection season 2: story synopsis and rumors
Full spoilers follow Dexter: resurrection first season. Possible spoilers for Dexter: resurrection second season.
When it comes to Dexter: resurrection plot of the second season, we have very interesting news to share. In a press release from Paramount+, there’s now an official tagline for season two: “Dexter: resurrection finds Dexter Morgan (Hall) caught between two killers, one notorious and the other terrorizing New York in ways no one ever anticipated, as he battles his greatest enemy yet: a midlife crisis. “Harrison (Jack Alcott) continues his own quest for justice as father and son face their darkest chapter.”
We saw Dexter return in the proper name. Dexter: resurrection after being shot by his own son, Harrison. Upon learning that Harrison was now living in New York, Dexter went on the hunt. Then, in true Dexter fashion, he found himself drawn into a world of serial killers, a club of them, in fact, run by billionaire Leon Prater (Peter Dinklage).
While Dexter attempted to solve the problem the best way he knows how, by killing the killers, he also struggles with his relationship with his son and their shared penchant for violence. And, despite Harrison’s dark nature, it also looks like he’ll have a love interest in season two, which seems to present all kinds of challenges.
With the police hot on his heels since the OG days Right In season 1, Dexter has a lot on his plate. And with Prater offering Dexter a deal to team up, that’s where we left off at the end of season 1. But, while Dinklage’s role has yet to be confirmed, it would be surprising not to see him return for season two, given how season 1 ended.
However, we do know that Uma Thurman will return as Charley. Considering we last saw her leave New York City with her mother in an attempt to go into hiding, a reprisal for her role suggests that perhaps leaving the state wasn’t the end after all.
We also know there are two new killers with the New York Ripper (Brian Cox) and the Five Borough Killer (Dan Stevens) ready to cause trouble. And since season two is what Paramount+ calls Dexter and Harrison’s “darkest chapter,” that’s a big statement considering what they’ve already been through.
Will there be more seasons of Dexter: Resurrection?
Although at the moment there is only an official renewal for the second season, there is already talk of the third season. Because? Well, because it seems like creators Scott Reynolds and Clyde Phillips have always planned at least three.
Speaking to Collider back in July 2025, Phillips said: “So, we’ll do this for as long as Michael wants. Then when we know what the final year is, we’ll know how to figure it out.”
To which Reynolds added: “But we present you three seasons that tell a great story that can continue.”
And in late 2025, when executive producer Marcos Siega appeared on Dark Passengers: A Dexter Podcast, he was asked about the multi-season plan and if there was anything beyond the second season, to which Siega said, “In my opinion, there’s a lot more beyond that. But that’s just in my mind.”
When asked if they know what the arc looks like for the show’s finale, Clyde Phillips chimed in: “It’s not where we want it to end. It’s just that we know what the overview of season 3 is.” To this, Siega added: “We even know who we chose.”
But, among all these big clues, it all comes down to whether there is an official renewal for Dexter: resurrection season 3, which there hasn’t been…yet. For now, we’ll have to wait and see.
