The Punisher: One Last DeathThe director has expressed his desire to see the main character eventually appear in his own film.
Ahead of the Marvel TV special’s release on Disney+, Reinaldo Marcus Green told The Direct that he and lead actor Jon Bernthal would “love” to see the fan-favorite antihero star in his own big-screen adventure.
Despite the growing popularity of The Punisher amid Bernthal’s popular take on the Marvel character, Green also admitted that it’s up to the comic book giant to decide if there’s really an appetite for a Frank Castle-directed movie.
Green’s comments came early The Punisher: One Last Death debuts on Disney+ on May 12 in North and South America, and May 13 in the rest of the world. And, in the weeks leading up to release, some fans were optimistic that Marvel’s upcoming Special Presentation would be a TV movie in all but name.
However, those hopes were dashed recently when, with the end credits crawl included, one last deathRunning time is only 48 minutes. With the Marvel Phase 6 project it is also said that it will take place around the events of Daredevil: Born Again In season 2, the television special starring Bernthal appears to be an episodic extension of the aforementioned show, rather than a stand-alone cinematic story.
Regardless, Green expressed his belief that Bernthal and Marvel could “come together” and develop a Punisher film, one that Green said would certainly be “worthy of what audiences would want to see from that character,” if there is a demand for a follow-up one. one last deathThe launch.
“I can’t talk about that,” he responded when asked if there had been talk of a Punisher movie. “I don’t know what the plans are for the future of Punisher.
“The only thing we hope we can achieve is the demand for more if we could achieve it. Hopefully, Jon and Marvel will come together to make something worthy of what the audience would want to see from that character in the future.
“Speaking for myself, I know that Jon and I would love to make a movie, something that could reach everyone and be on screens everywhere. But obviously, that will be Marvel’s decision.”
Of course, this won’t be the last time we see Bernthal Castle in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and interestingly, it will be making its big screen debut in the near future. In fact, The Punisher will play an active role in Spider-Man: New Daywhich hits theaters around the world on July 31.
