Stuart fails to save the universe it’s not The Big Bang Theory spinoff that anyone expected, but now that HBO Max has revealed its first trailer, it’s safe to say fans are impressed.
This time we see him with his girlfriend Denise (Lauren Lapkus) and his friends Bert (Brian Posehn) and Barry (John Ross Bowie).
As the title suggests, Stuart is thrown headlong into a mission to save the universe, which includes alternate timelines that look a bit like something from The living dead.
But in addition to delving into the existing history of Sheldon’s wormholes since TBBTthere is something in him Stuart fails to save the universe synopsis hinting that we might be seeing more familiar faces than the ones I’ve already listed.
Stuart Fails to Save the Universe synopsis hints at ‘alternate universe’ Big Bang theory characters coming

Here’s the full synopsis from HBO Max: “Comic book store owner Stuart Bloom is tasked with restoring reality after breaking a device built by Sheldon and Leonard, accidentally triggering a multiverse Armageddon. Stuart is aided in this quest by his girlfriend Denise, his geologist friend Bert, and quantum physicist/pain in the butt Barry Kripke.
“Along the way, they encounter alternate universe versions of characters we know and love. The Big Bang Theory. As the title suggests, things are not going well.”
It’s this last line that is a clever hook. The new TV show hints that many classics TBBT Characters could have a cameo throughout the series, including Sheldon and Leonard. But HBO Max is cleverly evasive about who might appear by keeping its wording intentionally vague.
“Are you telling me that Sheldon’s wormhole prank on Howard (Simon Helberg) and Raj (Kunal Nayyar) came true?!!!!” reads a YouTube comment.
A second says: “I think it’s a mix of the episode with the fake wormhole and the one where Leonard opens the meteorite and Stuart goes crazy. Either way, it’s great!”
“That would be a hilarious plot twist. I really hope the writers had that in mind,” a third agrees, with another adding, “This has to be the coolest way to do a spin-off ever!”
The proof will be in the alternate universe pudding on July 23, but I’d bet a lot of money on Sheldon and Leonard’s cameos being a high priority.
