Spanish MotoGP rider Álex Márquez suffered a serious crash during a race at the Catalan Grand Prix on Sunday.
Márquez collided with then-race leader Pedro Acosta as the two competed for position. His motorcycle overturned several times after falling to the ground. Acosta’s motorcycle braked unexpectedly and Márquez could not avoid it on the track.

The motorcyclist was thrown into the air as his vehicle was destroyed.
Marquez was conscious after the crash and was taken to the hospital for “further evaluation,” according to race officials. According to Spanish media, his injuries are not life-threatening.

Márquez’s MotoGP teammate Johann Zarco was also sent to hospital after an accident.
“Update on Álex Márquez’s physical conditions: C7 marginal fracture; his evaluation will be completed next week. Right clavicle fracture; it will be stabilized with a plate. He will be operated on today by the team at the General Hospital of Catalonia,” his team reported in a post on X.

Zarco’s leg became tangled in the back of another motorcyclist’s motorcycle. He was trapped when the bike overturned several times. He was taken to the hospital for further evaluation.
After both incidents, warning signs arose.
Fabio Di Giannantonio managed to finish in first place despite pieces of Márquez’s bike hitting him during the fall.

“Today has not been an easy day for everyone. I really hope Alex is okay,” he said via Reuters. “We’ve been very lucky. We know our sport is amazing. We try to put on an amazing show, but we’re also human and we’re in danger. So I really hope everyone is safe.”
