- DC Studios’ Latest TV Show Set to Premiere in Mid-August
HBO has presented a new trailer for Lanterns – and it looks like DC Studios has taken into account the concerns fans expressed after its inaugural trailer.
After the release of LanternsIn the first trailer, some viewers reacted negatively to its sterile color palette, confusion over its story, and other hype-killing qualities. The latest round of HBO Max TV Original footage, then, appears to be a direct response to those criticisms, with its bright, comic-book-style visuals, narrative thrust, and exciting action-packed sequences aiming to restore fans’ faith in the upcoming DC Universe (DCU) project.

LanternsThe latest trailer comes just over two weeks after HBO confirmed that the next DCU TV show would launch on August 16 and 17. Days before its release date was announced, a sinister new poster and slogan appeared for Lanterns It also teased a potentially dark fate for one of its main characters: a theory that the latest preview of this Green Lantern production doesn’t exactly throw cold water on.
We won’t know if that fan theory was correct until the HBO Max TV series directed by Aaron Pierre and Kyle Chandler is available in its entirety. However, there are things we already know about the plot of the DC comic book show, including some intriguing new details about how its story will play out.
What do we know so far about the history of Lanterns?
To start, here’s the official DCU Chapter One project logline: “Lanterns follows new recruit John Stewart (Pierre) and Lantern legend Hal Jordan (Chandler), two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark Earth mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland.
There’s not much to do there. However, thanks to a recent interview that co-showrunner Chris Mundy conducted with Entertainment Weekly (EW), we also learned that, among other things, Lanterns will span two timelines that fit and intersect throughout its eight episodes.
The first, set in 2016, will revolve around a shooting in the city of Rushville, Nebraska. Meanwhile, the other takes place in 2026, aka the DCU present, and sees Jordan continue to mentor Stewart as they try to solve the crime described in the story synopsis, which may, or may not, tie into events from a decade earlier. As Mundy jokes, “Eventually, two different mysteries are solved throughout the show.”
As for other plot-based information, Mundy has previously described Lanterns as “both a buddy cop show and a superhero show” and goes into more detail in the aforementioned EW article, which includes mild spoilers about its possible villain and other character appearances.
I won’t discuss them here in case you don’t want anything to be ruined beforehand. However, if you don’t mind spoilers and/or are curious to know more about the series, my guide to everything we know so far Lanterns It should be your next port of call.
