Kate Garraway reluctant to talk about romance with Liam Halligan for fear of a ‘curse’

Speaking in the Chelsea Flower Show On Tuesday, Kate said her blossoming relationship with Liam has been a “lovely” distraction from caring for her ailing parents.

‘It’s lovely. I guess it is! We basically haven’t had time for a proper date! I don’t want to curse him! I don’t want to say anything because I’ll curse him! I will curse him. We all love an Irishman, don’t we?’ Kate said.

The presenter went on to say that they haven’t gone on as many dates as they would like because they have been ‘consumed’ caring for their elderly parents.

she said The mirror: ‘My mom and dad haven’t been very well, so that has consumed me a lot.

‘It’s been complicated and I’ve been doing it this weekend. My dad was actually supposed to be with me. [at Chelsea] but it’s not good enough. I’m very lucky to have them both and I know it’s normal. [part of ageing].’

Liam recently admitted the pair had become “good friends” after they both became “single, against our wishes” in recent years.

Kate has been single since the death of her husband Derek Draper in January 2024, following his debilitating four-year battle with Covid.

Award-winning journalist and single dad Liam, 56, is separated from his partner, journalist Lucy Ward. They have a son and two daughters, Maeve and Ailis, who play with him in his band.
