- Trump Mobile Site Reportedly Vulnerable to Simple Exploit That Reveals Customer Data
- This includes things like addresses and email addresses.
- The exploit also revealed that there are apparently only around 30,000 pre-orders for the T1 phone.
There seems to be a new controversy surrounding Trump Mobile and its still-unavailable T1 phone almost every day, and in today’s update, we hear that customer information has apparently been leaked.
YouTubers Voidzilla and penguinz0 (via TechCrunch), who had ordered the T1 phone, were allegedly contacted by someone who claimed to have carried out a very simple security exploit on the Trump Mobile website, which gave them access to customer information.
This includes names, addresses, email addresses, and, according to Voidzilla, “everything but the credit card number.”
The source provided evidence that they apparently had access to the entire database, so that’s a lot of leaked information, and neither they nor the YouTubers have managed to get a response from Trump Mobile as of this writing.
The source apparently has no intention of using the data they found, but the data is reportedly still online and accessible to anyone who discovers the exploit.
An unpopular perspective
Interestingly, this data also revealed that there have apparently only been around 30,000 orders placed for the T1 phone, and only from around 10,000 different customers. It’s unclear if the Trump Mobile service plan counts as a separate order for the phone, but if so, that would partly explain why so many people are placing multiple orders.
Still, that 30,000 figure is far, far below previous estimates of around 590,000, so it’s unclear what’s going on here. But if there have really only been about 30,000 orders, then the T1 Phone is far from a success, which could explain why it keeps being delayed, because it may no longer be a priority for the company.
None of this is good news for Trump Mobile or its customers, who are not only still waiting for a phone that may never appear, but now have to worry about their information getting into the hands of criminals.
