- Filmmaker mode in reverse: Creator Original harnesses the processing power of your TV

LG Electronics has partnered with Prime Video to launch a new picture mode on select LG TVs. The new mode, called Creator Original, will initially be exclusive to three 2026 models: the LG C6, LG G6 and LG W6 series TVs.
The launch will focus on the Masters of the universe movie, which will come to Prime Video. And if you don’t mind feeling really silly, you can declare “I have the POWER!” on the LG Magic Remote for LG Smart TV with webOS 23 or later to display content related to the movie release.
However, Creator Original is the most interesting addition. It promises to give creators more control than Filmmaker Mode, because it takes the opposite approach: Instead of removing image processing and enhancement from your TV as much as possible, Creator Original takes it, but with rules.
What is Creator Original on LG OLED TVs?
According to LG, Creator Original will allow film and television studios to set key parameters such as shadow detail and color balance, and control how motion processing and noise reduction are used in their TV processing, all to deliver the creator’s preferred images, in theory.
In the case of Masters of the universeLG says that allows its TVs to “faithfully reproduce every clash of shining swords, Skeletor’s shadowy lair, and explosive battle on Eternia.”
Interestingly, the tone of Creator Original sounds remarkably similar to what Dolby is planning with Dolby Vision 2. Dark area management and motion management control are key features of DV2, which has the same goal as Creator Original: taking full advantage of the capabilities of high-powered TVs without sacrificing accuracy, putting control in the hands of filmmakers and using file data to tell the TV what to do.
However, Creator Original won’t have the bi-directional tone mapping or some other features of Dolby Vision 2 Max, which also has a new and improved image quality engine behind it.
But it still looks like Creator Original can meet DV2’s most interesting requirements, and it has one big advantage over it: it looks like it’ll arrive first.
Dolby Vision 2 currently has a streaming partner, Peacock, and a filmmaking partner (StudioCanal), and there’s no sign of a release date yet, although in conversations with Hisense and TCL we learned it’s expected before the end of the year.
By contrast, LG says the Creator Original mode for Prime Video “is scheduled to launch later this month,” meaning July 2026, and if Prime Video adds support across more of its enviable Amazon Studios and MGM library, there could be a whole host of movies using it. Of course, the fact that it only works on three TVs is a bit of a limitation.
When we asked LG if it plans to support Dolby Vision 2, it said it would wait to see how support for the format evolves, but said we shouldn’t expect current TVs to get it. So if you’re thinking about buying the LG C6 or G6, this might be your best bet for these types of next-gen imaging features.
As for the film itself, we enjoyed it quite a bit: in our Masters of the universe review we said “it’s the relentlessly fun popcorn movie that [we] I had been waiting for the recent Star Wars movie. The Mandalorian and Grogu be.”
