Darby Allin made one final defense of the AEW World Championship on Wednesday’s double episode of “Dynamite” and “Collision” against “Speedball” Mike Bailey and did so against his Double or Nothing challenger, Maxwell Jacob Friedman (MJF).
Allin had been on an incredible streak of title defenses since capturing the championship over MJF about a month ago. In the lead up to a hair title match against MJF, Allin once again showed why he was one of the best in professional wrestling.
Bailey missed a high-flying aerial maneuver that allowed Allin to perform a Coffin Drop. But MJF interfered, putting Bailey’s foot on the rope to break the count. Bailey nearly got a three count on Allin after a kick, but Allin ultimately survived.

Allin put Bailey in multiple Scorpion Death Locks and forced Bailey to tap out. Still the champion, Allin and MJF will face each other at Double or Nothing. If Allin retains, MJF will have to shave his head.

Willow Nightingale reveals injury and resigns from TBS championship

Unfortunately, Willow Nightingale’s dominant reign as TBS Champion came to an abrupt end on Wednesday night. He announced it during “Dynamite.”
“Winning this championship was one of the greatest moments of my career and I have had no shortage of great moments in my time in AEW. I won the Owen title before, I won the TBS title before this reign,” he said in a backstage segment. “And I became one half of the first AEW Women’s Tag Team Champions. But winning this back from Mercedes (Moné), I knew that if I could do that, I could prove myself, I could prove to the world that I am everything I thought I could be, so I told myself that I would fight day in and day out against any challenger that stepped up and if I couldn’t do that, then I didn’t deserve to be the TBS champion.
“As fate would have it, in my most recent title defense against Red Velvet, I injured my right shoulder and I want so badly, I want so badly to fight at Double or Nothing in front of my family, at home in New York, against Alex Windsor. I want to continue in Owen and go to All In and become the AEW World Champion. But unfortunately, I have to withdraw from the Owen Hart Cup. Also, I have to give up the TBS Championship.”
Nightingale said she was “delighted” against TBS over the course of her 10 title defenses and promised to return, although it was unclear when.
Mina Shirakawa will now face Athena in Owen’s first round at Double or Nothing. Windsor will have a wild card opponent in the tournament.
Will Ospreay makes a statement before Double or Nothing
Will Ospreay appeared in the “Collision” portion of Wednesday night’s special, facing off against Katsuyori Shibata, a member of The Opps. It was a warm-up match before Ospreay faces Opps member Samoa Joe in the first round of the Owen Hart Foundation Men’s Tournament.
Ospreay has been more dangerous since training with The Death Riders in recent weeks, showing his tenacity last week against Ace Austin. It was pretty much the same against Shibata. His aerial styles and hard punches proved to be too much for Shibata in the end. He hit Shibata with a Styles Clash and a Hidden Blade, pinning Shibata for the victory.
Joe turned to Ospreay after the game and told him he was going to “put your ass to sleep.”
Ospreay responded, detailing his own “nightmare” situation facing some of his skeptics. He said he received messages for years about how Joe was going to “kill him” and wondered how that would be possible if he “had already died in this very ring.”
“This year, there is a lot at stake because the winner of the Owen Hart Cup will face the world champion in the largest stadium that my country has. A stadium that all the children in my school wanted to be in and I have the opportunity to fulfill the dream of my country and I have the opportunity to fulfill my dream because it is not just the company on my back, I have a whole incredible country on my back.
“My nightmare, Joe, my nightmare died and was left in the hands of these men (The Horsemen of Death) and Marina (Shafir). They killed the old me and rebuilt me. They rebuilt me into a killer, into a murderess, into what I have been all along.”
He said that on Sunday at Double or Nothing he began his path to winning the AEW World Championship.

For weeks, Swerve Strickland had made it clear that he was going after Ring of Honor champion Bandido. The two were set to face each other in the first round of the Owen Hart Foundation Men’s Tournament at the upcoming Double or Nothing pay-per-view, but decided to give fans a preview of what’s to come.
Strickland was going to address the crowd in Portland, Maine, when Bandido caught him by surprise. The two brawled for several minutes as Strickland attempted to hit a Vertebreaker into a char that he placed in the middle of the ring. Bandido counterattacked and hit Strickland with the military press.
As Bandido went for a knockout blow with the chair, Strickland rolled out of the ring.
