Star Wars returns to the big screen. In fact, with The Mandalorian and Grogu Finally, ending the iconic sci-fi franchise’s theatrical hiatus, I suspect many of you will be heading to your local theater to see what it’s all about.
However, if its lackluster critical reception has put you off, read my review of The Mandalorian and Grogu To see what I thought: Maybe you decide to save your money and wait for it to come out on Disney+. So when could one of the new movies of 2026 make its streaming debut?
Do The Mandalorian and Grogu already have a release date on Disney+?
No. The movie sequel The Mandalorian The TV series only hit theaters on May 22, so it will be a while before it launches on Disney+.
When could that be? I don’t have any inside information, but my best guess is that it will arrive on one of the top streaming services in early September, with September 2nd being the most likely scenario.
Why then? Disney typically releases its first-party movies on its primary streamer about three months after they are released in theaters. Some have come to the service earlier or later than expected, but that’s usually a result of their poor performance at the global box office or because they’re still making money through ticket sales, so they stay in theaters longer.
For The Mandalorian and GroguLet’s assume it will arrive on Disney+ three months after its theatrical release. That would mean it should be available to watch at home on August 22nd, right?
Not quite. You see, new Disney+ movies tend to come out on Wednesdays. This year, August 22nd falls on a Saturday, so there is absolutely no chance that the first of many new Star Wars movies and TV shows will be released on that date.
Now, it is possible that The Mandalorian and Grogu could fall on Wednesday either side of August 22; Those dates are August 19 and 26. However, I think Disney will hold back its streaming release until the September 2nd date mentioned above. The reason? Labor Day, one of the many holidays celebrated in the US, will be celebrated on Monday, September 7 this year.
Since many Americans will enjoy a three-day weekend around that time, the publication The Mandalorian and Grogu on the Wednesday before Labor Day weekend makes a lot of sense. Those who live in the United States will probably have a couple of hours free at some point during the extended weekend, so loading up Disney+ to watch the latest Star Wars movie is something millions of them are sure to do.
And hey, if you don’t live in the US, I’m sure you’ll have some downtime during the first weekend of September. If you do and you’re a Star Wars fan, there’s a good chance you’ll log into Disney+ to see what all the fuss is about. The Mandalorian and Grogualso.
How long is The Mandalorian and Grogu?
As you may have already noticed (if you haven’t jumped to this section anyway), I told you that you’ll need to set aside a couple of hours to watch. The Mandalorian and Grogu.
This is due to the fact that its running time is two hours and 12 minutes, including the end credits crawl. That makes it the fourth shortest Star Wars film of all time, with only the original film trilogy having shorter running times.
Do The Mandalorian and Grogu have an end credits scene?
No. Once Din Djarin and Baby Yoda’s latest galactic adventure comes to an end, there is no mid-credits and/or post-credits scene to linger on.
Of course, sit through the end credits sequence to appreciate the many people who worked on The Mandalorian and Grogu. But if you sit there hoping to get a hint of what’s next for that fabled galaxy far, far away, you’ll be sorely disappointed.
