The Quetta district administration on Monday constituted a special committee to assess the financial and structural damage caused by the powerful explosion near Chaman Phatak, which claimed 14 lives and left many others injured.
According to an official notification, the committee was directed to start work immediately and carry out a thorough survey of the affected area. The panel would assess damage to residential homes, shops, vehicles, commercial establishments and other properties affected by the explosion.
The Quetta Deputy Commissioner, who also serves as the Chairman of the District Compensation Committee, formed the panel to ensure fair, transparent and accurate assessment of losses suffered by local residents and business owners.
The deputy commissioner of Quetta (city) was appointed head of the committee. Its members included senior officials of the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), Department of Communications and Works, Quetta Metropolitan Corporation and Department of Agricultural Engineering.

Officials said the committee would visit the blast site, document all damaged structures and vehicles and prepare a detailed report. The results will be presented to the district administration to determine appropriate compensation packages and relief measures for the affected families.
The explosion near Chaman Phatak caused widespread destruction in the densely populated area, breaking windows, damaging buildings and destroying several parked vehicles.
Rescue teams and security personnel quickly reached the scene, shifted the injured to nearby hospitals and cordoned off the area for investigation. The inclusion of technical experts in the committee was expected to help produce an accurate assessment of both structural and financial losses.
The authorities assured that all possible efforts will be made to provide timely relief to those who suffered the tragedy.
The formation of the committee reflected the administration’s commitment to supporting victims and restoring normalcy to the affected neighborhood as quickly as possible.
