Karol G thought she would leave the American Music Awards stage with a big victory. Then John Legend surprised her with another one.
On Monday, May 25, the Colombian superstar accepted the International Artist of Excellence Award during the ceremony at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, and Legend presented him with the honor. But what I didn’t know was that he had also won the award for Best Latin Album for Tropicochaete.
Accepting the first prize, Karol said: “What an honor, John, that you have given me this award. It is a ‘legend’, it will undoubtedly be a legendary moment in my career.”
Born Carolina Giraldo Navarro, Latin singer Foreva thanked God for allowing her to “lead the most incredible life” and emphasized that she “found [her] purpose through music.”
“I’m happy to be able to perform a song and to be able to sing things in my song that become the voice of a lot of people,” he continued. “I just think my life has meaning thanks to my music and being able to help others through it.”
She concluded: “I’m very grateful, I’m very happy, I feel very honoured.”
But before she could leave the stage, Legend interrupted her with a surprise announcement.
“Okay, Karol, before you go, we have a little extra surprise for you,” he told her. “I’m happy to say that in addition to this incredible award, you also won Best Latin Album. Congratulations.”
The revelation instantly caused Karol G to let out excited screams as the crowd erupted around her.
