New York City became the epicenter of professional wrestling on Sunday night when All Elite Wrestling (AEW) took over Louis Armstrong Stadium in Queens.

The consensus is there, and it was pretty clear from sitting in the stands right in front of the hard camera, this instance of Double or Nothing was the best PPV in AEW history. It has a chance of being the event of the year along with WrestleMania Night 2, but we can debate that at another time.

The New York audience was electrified from start to finish. Mick Foley received a big splash when he was introduced as Renee Paquette’s broadcast partner. When the games began, there was not a single one that did not receive “oos and ahs” from the thousands of attendees.

The intimate atmosphere, perhaps, made each match, one after the other, more exciting.

Stadium Stampede also brought some fun. “Jungle” Jack Perry almost murders Mark Davis with his friend. Luchasaurus dressed in a wig and almost kissed Andrade El Idolo. Satnam Singh, Tommy Invincible and Lio Rush made surprise appearances. But finally it was Chris Jericho’s team that won.

Meanwhile, Darby Allin tried his best to shave MJF’s head. But it was MJF who regained the AEW World Championship to become a three-time champion at the age of 30. At the end of the event, Kevin Knight turned and attacked Allin, who was placed on a stretcher.

The returning Kyle Fletcher, Adam Copeland and Christian Cage won the tag titles, Tay Melo and Anna Jay looked to be new challengers for the women’s tag titles against Megan Bayne and Lena Kross, hell, Eddie Kingston and Mance Warner helped thwart Shane Taylor’s promotions.

The stakes of each match in front of a passionate crowd made it all worth it, even if this reporter didn’t return home until 3:30 a.m. ET on Monday morning.

AEW will turn its attention to Forbidden Door next month, where the winners of the Owen Hart Tournaments will be crowned.

A moment for Michin

Saturday night’s main event will be lost in a wild weekend of professional wrestling. But it was a solid night of professional wrestling that fostered some rivalries and set the stage for what was to come at Clash in Italy.

Michin has been part of an alliance with Jade Cargill and B-Fab and may get lost in the shuffle of a crowded SmackDown roster. She was on full display during the six-woman tag team match on Saturday.

Michin, at one point, unleashed a Styles Clash and almost got the win for his team.

Her performance underlined the great move set she has and reminded the WWE Universe that she is as good as anyone else in the division.

Getting Michin back into the US Women’s Championship picture has to be a must-do for the summer. She has proven that she is more than capable of holding her own in the ring and Saturday Night’s Main Event underlined that point.

Mask vs Mask continued

How is it that El Grande Americano is so finished in Mexico? It’s a question many wrestling fans have been asking themselves over the past few months as the days of the Mask vs. Mask vs. Original El Grande Americano match at Noches de los Grandes draw near.

The game almost didn’t continue.

The man we believe is under the mask of The Great American, Marcel Barthel, was arrested for assault in Florida. However, he did not receive any travel restraining order, allowing him to work at AAA without any threat of breaking the law.

The Great American was excited at an event held specifically for him. The fans in Mexico were crying out for him, charging him to cry a little. You can tell what it means to the crowd.

On AAA programming, the restraining order that was supposed to keep El Grande Americano and El Grande Americano Original in a Mexican ring was thrown out the window when the two wrestlers and their allies engaged in a massive brawl.

Everything is preparing for what is expected to be a wild Saturday night.
