Nintendo has released a new mobile game out of nowhere, and it’s quite similar to the WarioWare series.
the game is called Pictonic! and it’s a collection of mini-games that uses photos of people from your phone’s gallery in up to 80 pretty fun mini-games. These range from biting or dragging someone’s mouth to force them to devour fruit to pulling out their nose hairs.
In addition to accessing previous snapshots, you can take new photos to use directly from the app.
The extravagant tone and aesthetic are certainly reminiscent of WarioWare titles and, having played it for a while before writing this, it largely reminds me of memories of playing with the camera focused in a similar way. WarioWare: Broken! on the Nintendo DSi.
If you are interested in trying it out, you can download a completely free demo version on Android and iOS devices. This edition includes three mini-games to play with, but if you want more, you can purchase two additional volumes with 50 and 30 games for $7.69 / £6.99 and $5.99 / £5.39 respectively.
Buying one unlocks a ton of extra features, including a selection of challenge stages to overcome, a score attack mode, and more.
Purchasing both volumes also grants access to a mixed mode that combines games of everything you’ve purchased. The wording of the app makes me think that future volumes will be published as well, which is definitely interesting.
Oh, and if you’re particularly privacy conscious, you’ll be relieved to know that the App Store listing specifies that none of your photos are sent to Nintendo.
