- New under-counter refrigerators hold 38 bottles
- They are available in stainless steel or matte Neptune Gray.
- Protect your wine with activated carbon filter and anti-UV glass
Concerned about storing your wine at the optimal temperature this summer and equally concerned about style? Smeg has launched a new range of undercounter wine cellars that fill the gap between its built-in and column wine cellars. They have capacity for 21 and 78 bottles respectively; The new undercounter refrigerators hold 38 bottles.
The new range is made up of three models: the Classic, made of stainless steel and with right or left opening, and the Linea, right-handed and in matte Neptune Gray. All three models are now available.
As you’d expect from Smeg (which produces several of the best coffee makers we’ve tested over the years), these are premium products with elegant design, although the themes here are classic and professional rather than the bright colors of Smeg’s smaller, instantly recognizable appliances and refrigerators, such as the toaster, juicer, kettle and mixer I have in my kitchen. These refrigerators are designed to be combined with the company’s Professional Collection and the Neptune Gray Line Collection.
SMEG Undercounter Wine Cabinets: Key Features and Prices
All three models have the same features. They are illuminated inside by LED and have anti-UV glass to prevent the sun from spoiling your Sauvignon, and the air inside is filtered by activated carbon. The compressor has low vibrations, which SMEG says is necessary to prevent long-term vibrations from compromising the quality of the wine.
The coolers accommodate bottles of different sizes and feature telescopic sliders for easy removal. There are three removable shelves and two fixed ones, all of them made of wood.
Temperature control is via an integrated touch screen and there are two temperature zones catering for temperatures from 41F to 68F/5C to 20C.
As you’d expect, the new models will be quite expensive – some US retailers are offering them priced at $3,999, while in the UK I’m seeing an RRP of £2,929. That’s about 5,497 Australian dollars.
