Read my thoughts on the exciting final leg of this weekend’s Triple Crown below.

1. Will Renegade (+190 odds) win, place or enter the 2026 Belmont Stakes?

None of the above

Renegade is the rightful favorite in this race. He almost won the Derby after taking a terrible post (PP 1) and most probably believe he is the best 3-year-old in the country. He has a trainer in Todd Pletcher who knows how to win this race. He has a jacket in Irad Ortiz Jr. who knows how to win this race. When those two have been paired for a starter in the Belmont Stakes, which has happened four times, that horse has never been worse than second. I’m going to say Renegade takes second place here because there are two very strong contenders to win here: Chief Wallabee and Emerging Market. And two others, Commandment and Derby winner Golden Tempo, could also make it to the Winner’s Circle.

Prediction: Place

2. Rank the horses by BEST FINISHING POSITION in the Belmont Stakes (from best to worst):

Renegade (+190)
Golden Tempo (+500)
Wallabee Chief (+375)
Commandment (+600)

I’m worried that Golden Tempo won’t have good pace here, so I have the Derby winner in fourth. Commandment’s Derby has to be completely scrapped as he was mistreated early on and was left out. He has a couple of high-level wins in Florida, but I think as the year progresses, both Chief Wallabee and Renegade will prove to be better than Commandment. I really had second thoughts about putting Chief Wallabee instead of Renegade. I thought Chief would win the Derby but he didn’t have a great trip. It always seems like something is wrong with him and he can’t get there. So I say Renegade has the best finish of the four, since we know it can overcome bad trips and Todd Pletcher always has his horses ready to fire at Belmont.

Prediction: Renegade, Wallabee Chief, Commandment, Golden Tempo

3. Which of the following will occur?

Exacta — Renegade/Tempo
Exacta – Golden Tempo / Renegade
Renegade to finish outside the top 3
None of the above

I don’t like any of those results showing up on Saturday. I don’t see an exact Golden Tempo/Renegade in any way, with Golden Tempo winning and Renegade coming in second, or vice versa. At the same time, I don’t see Renegade outside the top three either. This will give you 10 points!

Prediction: None of the above

4. Predict Chief Wallabee’s FINAL POSITION (+375 odds):

1-3, 3-5, 5-7, 7-8+

I think Chief Wallabee has a great performance here and gets it absolutely right. He shouldn’t have traffic problems like he had in the Derby. He is rested and has been training well. Bill Mott knows how to win this race and at this track. I’d be surprised if the Boss didn’t hit the board.

Prediction: 1-3

5. Which horse will have the BEST FINISHING POSITION in the 2026 Belmont Stakes?

Of Chad Brown’s brokers, I like emerging markets the most. In fact, it’s my pick to win the race. In the derby he was too close to a fast pace, got stuck in traffic and lost a shoe during the race. The path to Belmont success lately has been a Derby runner skipping the Preakness and arriving fresh at the Belmont. Emerging Market fits that profile, as do Chief Wallabee, Renegade, Golden Tempo and Commandment. But I’m a gambler and here I’ll land on emerging markets.

Prediction: Emerging market

6. Will Golden Tempo (+500 odds) win, place or run in the 2026 Belmont Stakes?

While Golden Tempo won the Derby, and he and trainer Cherie DeVaux will go down in history for that achievement, I still think Chief Wallabee, Emerging Market and Renegade in their fair track and travel days have more high-level potential than Golden Tempo. That, along with a slower pace for Golden Tempo, means he’s likely to finish off the board.

Prediction: None of the above
