It’s fair to say that Apple’s efforts to push Apple Intelligence updates to Siri and bring the digital assistant to the level of Gemini or ChatGPT have been somewhat painstaking up to this point, and it looks like the big Siri 2.0 update we’re expecting very soon won’t be easy either.
Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman, who accesses Apple’s information most of the time, says that the revamped and AI-enhanced version of Siri launching with iOS 27 may initially come with a ‘beta’ label attached.
Gurman also suggests that there’s “the possibility of a waiting list of some sort” before you can try out the improved features, something you may remember Apple did with the original. launch of Apple Intelligence back in 2024.
We’ve been hearing rumors about this Siri update for months, and according to Gurman, it will turn Siri “from a voice control system to an AI companion that does it all.” Some of the incoming features were announced with Apple Intelligence in 2024 and then delayed, including deeper access to apps and users’ personal information.

We also know that Apple has signed a deal with Google to use Gemini AI models to power the new and improved Siri 2.0. However, this won’t be like the existing ChatGPT integration: there will be no mention of Gemini in the app, although it will be Google’s technology that will discover the relevant AI responses.
According to previous leaks, Apple will again use the privacy argument to suggest that its AI offerings are “fundamentally different” from what’s on the market, with tighter controls on how much user data is shared and stored.
We’ve also seen what the updated Siri would look like on iOS, with an animation appearing in the iPhone’s Dynamic Island when the AI assistant is invoked. Siri chats are also expected to sync across devices for the first time.
