Explosion caused by suspected gas leak and fire injures three people in Muhalla Hukumdad, authorities say

Three people were injured after an explosion caused by a suspected gas leak and subsequent fire in Rawalpindi’s Muhalla Hukumdad on Saturday, rescue officials said.

According to initial reports, the explosion occurred due to a possible gas leak that caused a fire, leaving three people with burns.

Rescue 1122 said two emergency vehicles were immediately dispatched to the scene after receiving information about the incident.

Rescuers provided first aid to the injured at the scene before taking them to hospital. The injured were shifted to Holy Family Hospital in Rawalpindi for further treatment, according to rescue sources.

Incidents involving gas cylinders are frequently reported in the city, often attributed to leaks and improper handling.

Earlier this year, three separate incidents of gas leaks and fires in different areas of Rawalpindi left a three-month-old baby dead and four other people, including two women, injured.

Following such incidents, the Rawalpindi district administration imposed an immediate ban on illegal filling of gas cylinders and sale of poor quality or defective cylinders in the district.

The deputy commissioner also ordered a crackdown on illegal gas cylinder agencies and vehicles using gas in cylinders, including public transport buses, wagons, Suzuki vans and taxis.

He had further directed the authorities to ensure prompt redressal of gas leakage complaints across the district.
