FBR has given additional appointments in key positions to 27 senior officials of the Internal Revenue Service

ISLAMABAD:

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has decided to introduce major administrative changes to meet tax collection targets and improve the efficiency of the country’s revenue system.

As part of these measures, the tax authority has begun to strengthen its administrative capacity by assigning additional responsibilities to senior officials from various backgrounds.

According to sources, the FBR has given additional appointments in key posts to 27 senior exchequer officials.

Grade 20 officers have been assigned temporary responsibilities on an interim basis for a period of three months, which will remain in effect until permanent appointments are made.

These displacements have taken place in Lahore, Islamabad and other major cities. Apart from the FBR headquarters, officials have also been assigned additional charges in the Regional Tax Offices, Large Taxpayer Units, Medium Tax Offices and various directorates.

Sources said experienced officials in important areas such as tax reforms, refunds, withholding tax, appeals, intelligence and training have been assigned to ensure timely resolution of taxpayer issues and improve overall performance of revenue operations.

FBR officials stated that the purpose of these measures is to accelerate the tax reform process, strengthen monitoring mechanisms and improve the effectiveness of field operations, which will ultimately lead to better tax collection across the country.
