Atlético Madrid have brutally mocked arch-rivals Real Madrid on social media following their shocking official statement regarding a massive €150m (£129m/$173m) bid for Julián Álvarez. The red and whites dismissed the extraordinary announcement with a sarcastic list of clarifications, brutally stating that their city neighbors are much more ridiculous than current La Liga champions Barcelona.

Real Madrid confirms Álvarez’s enormous offer

Real Madrid took the unusual step of publishing a formal announcement about its transfer business. The Santiago Bernabéu team confirmed that they saw a monumental proposal of 150 million euros for Álvarez rejected by Atlético de Madrid. Detailing the rejection, the club’s official statement said: “Real Madrid CF announces that, following the Board of Directors meeting held today, it has presented an offer of 150 million euros to Club Atlético de Madrid for the federative rights of the player Julián Álvarez.” Following the rebuttal, Los Blancos are expected to be forced to pay his astronomical €500 million release clause to break the contract completely.

On its official social media account, Atlético launched a harsh response to the extraordinary statement issued by its city rivals. The club flatly denied having negotiated any possible transfer, while brutally mocking their bitter adversaries in the process.

Their official statement said: “Official statement with our clarifications regarding the official statement from our neighbor Real Madrid: 1. They cut off the video of the Pope before he said that he was also an Atleti fan. 2. You may have confused courtesy with gratitude, but let it be clear: we do not thank you for anything. 3. We are not considering or evaluating any offer for Julián.”

Barcelona also humiliated after the previous offer

The notable social media attack didn’t stop there, as the red and whites launched another public swipe, reading: “4. How can we not get along, when you make us laugh even more than Barcelona?” Then they added: “PS: Taking advantage of the good relationship with your new president, let’s see if you stop ‘stealing’ players from our Academy. Thank you very much, Real Madrid!”

Several days ago, Barcelona suffered a similar humiliation after submitting a €100m (£86m/$115m) bid. Atlético released a series of simulated images, jokingly offering match tickets, an annual subscription and sunflower seeds in exchange for Lamine Yamal.

What happens next in the transfer saga?

Real and Barcelona must now decide whether to pursue Alvarez or abandon their ambitious transfer plans entirely. With Atlético adopting such an aggressive defensive stance, securing the striker’s signature seems increasingly impossible. The two Spanish heavyweights will likely need to negotiate a reduction in the Argentine’s release clause if they are serious about forcing a dramatic deal at the end of the summer.
