Sony didn’t learn from Bose’s good example: it’s ending streaming support for many services on tons of its speakers, sound bars, and Blu-ray players; They will still work, but you will lose services like Netflix, Spotify, Prime Video and even Google Cast.

  • Several Sony devices will lose access to streaming services and Google Cast
  • AV receivers, Blu-ray players, sound bars, wireless speakers and more
  • Starting November 17, 2026

Something we’ve learned the hard way over the years is that almost any product with an online component will eventually lose it. Server shutdowns have affected everything from multiplayer games to the ill-fated PlaysForSure music platform, and now it’s coming to Sony products.

Like Bose earlier this year, Sony is shutting down servers for some of its audiovisual products. But unlike Bose, which went to great lengths to allow people to keep as much functionality as possible, Sony devices will lose many core features as a result.
