Two officers martyred in PAF training aircraft crash near Mardan: ISPR


The Air Command has constituted an investigation board to determine the cause of the accident.

Two pilots were martyred on Monday when a Super Mushshak training aircraft of the Pakistan Air Force on a routine training sortie crashed near Mardan in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, the army’s media wing said.

According to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the pilots have been identified as Flight Lieutenant Muhammad Qasim Abdullah of the Pakistan Air Force, who was an instructor pilot, and Lieutenant Taha Abbasi of the Pakistan Navy, who was an officer trainee.

ISPR said, “The Air Headquarters has constituted a board of inquiry to determine the cause of the accident.”

Chief of Defense Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir, along with service chiefs and all ranks of Pakistan Armed Forces, expressed deep grief over the loss of lives and extended condolences to the bereaved families, according to ISPR.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed deep regret over the accident and expressed condolences over the death of two officers in the incident, in a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office.

He prayed for the elevation of the ranks of the deceased and said he sympathized with the grieving families. He further said that the professionalism of Pakistan Armed Forces in defending the country remains “unparalleled”.

In a statement, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi expressed his regret over the accident of the training plane and paid tribute to the two deceased pilots. He described Captain Qasim and Captain Talha as martyrs and honored their sacrifice.

The Minister of the Interior also expressed his deepest condolences to the families of the deceased pilots and expressed his solidarity with them.

On June 10, a Pakistan Army Aviation Mi-17 helicopter crashed near Muzaffarabad during take-off due to a technical fault, leading to the martyrdom of all personnel on board.

According to Interservice Public Relations, there were no survivors of the accident. Rescue and recovery teams were sent to the scene immediately after the accident and reached the area to begin relief and recovery operations, he added.

“A board of inquiry has been ordered to determine the exact technical cause of the accident,” he said.
