Samsung Max VPN was designed to act as a privacy assistant exclusively for Samsung users. According to a report by SammyFans, the software “was never a famous app on a Galaxy phone and rarely made headlines.”
Its Google Play page, however, has more than 50 million downloads. Some of these users have expressed their disappointment at the closure.
One reviewer wrote: “I’m very bummed. It seems like June 15, 2026 is the last date to use. I wish there was another app available like this. This app was great and then it got better; and then somehow things weren’t so great: it saved data and then it didn’t for some reason. It’s sad to say goodbye.”
Instead of an abrupt, unexplained outage, users who opened the app in recent days were greeted with a short goodbye message instead of their usual data storage panel. The notice on the app clearly said, “This is the final version of the app and the service will be available until June 15, 2026.”
Starting today, the VPN connection and all background data saving features will no longer work. The app itself will not be automatically removed from your smartphone; instead, it will likely just remain on your home screen as a “dead shell” until you decide to uninstall it manually.
Find an alternative
So far, Samsung has not announced a similar successor to fill the gap. This could change, as seen when Google removed its premium One VPN, but then made sure Google fully launched VPN for Pixel users as a built-in system feature.
