Jennifer Lopez has opened up about the period of deep self-reflection that followed her divorce from Ben Affleck, revealing that she made a deliberate decision to stop, call it all off, and examine her own role in what went wrong.
Talking about the Without intelligence In the podcast on Monday, June 15, Lopez, 56, described what happened after she filed for divorce from Affleck in August 2024, on the second anniversary of their Georgia wedding, no less.
“There comes a point where everything is so disconcerting and wrong. Where you have to sit there. After my last divorce, I just sat there,” he said. “I canceled my tour and I sat there and thought, ‘You have to find out for yourself.'”
The soul-searching that followed led her to confront her own patterns rather than deflect blame.
“‘What’s the matter?’ Forget about everyone else. “There’s no one to blame here except yourself in a way,” he said.
“It’s not that people don’t behave in a way that’s not good. But, ‘What are you doing? What’s wrong with you?’ “That was a turning point for me.”
One of the most powerful moments of her reflection involved returning to the girl she once was.
“By looking at those patterns, I was able to go back to that girl and really look at her,” she said.
“That girl with the torn nightgown, I can see her right now… Dirty feet, walking barefoot all the time. And just saying, ‘You did this. You did all this. Give yourself a little something. A little love! Stop looking for love in other things and give it to yourself.'”
She also credited her sister Lynda Lopez for encouraging her to be her own guardian instead of focusing on the outside. The journey, López said, has been gradual and cumulative.
“These are all little pieces of a puzzle that you slowly fit together as you sit with your oat milk and say, ‘That’s me.'”
Lopez and Affleck settled their divorce in February 2025. They had previously been together in the early 2000s and became engaged before separating, before rekindling their relationship and marrying in 2022.
