Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Sher Afzal Marwat has been acquitted by a district and sessions court in Islamabad in a case related to a fight in the Supreme Court.
The verdict, which was reserved after hearings on Marwat’s petition for acquittal, was announced on Saturday.
The court dismissed all charges against Marwat and co-accused Fatahullah Baraki, involved in an incident at the Secretariat police station.
In October 2023, Sher Afzal Marwat was booked in a case related to a fight in the Supreme Court.
The case was filed by Constable Javed Humayun at the Secretariat Police Station in Islamabad.
In his FIR, the officer alleged that Sher Afzal Marwat physically assaulted him in the Supreme Court parking lot and issued serious threats to him.
The FIR further stated that Marwat tried to run him over with a vehicle.
Furthermore, in December 2023, an FIR was registered against Sher Afzal Khan Marwat and the workers for organizing a workers’ convention in Suabi. Authorities had booked 21 local PTI leaders and others for violation of Section 144.
Furthermore, in September 2023, Islamabad Police arrested PTI Chairman Advocate Gohar Ali Khan and Member of National Assembly (MNA) Sher Afzal Marwat outside Parliament after a session of the National Assembly.
According to Express News, a heavy police presence had gathered outside Parliament in advance.
As the PTI leaders left the building, the police took up positions and quickly moved to arrest Marwat.
During Marwat’s arrest a fight had reportedly broken out between Marwat’s supporters and the police.
However, the police managed to surround and arrest the MNA, confiscating his vehicle before leaving the scene.
