UK minister says US-Iran deal projects Pakistan as champion of global peace

UK Minister for the Middle East, Afghanistan and Pakistan Hamish Falconer said on Wednesday that the recent rapprochement between the United States and Iran had projected Pakistan as a champion of global peace, according to an official handout issued after meeting Home Secretary Mohsin Naqvi in ​​Islamabad.

According to the pamphlet, Falconer praised Pakistan’s positive and proactive role in facilitating understanding between the United States and Iran. He said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir had played a historic role in promoting peace.

The two sides discussed Pakistan-UK relations and the broader regional situation during the meeting.

The meeting was also attended by Federal Ministers Chaudhry Salik Hussain, Ali Pervaiz Malik, Talal Chaudhry and Awn Chaudhry, Home Secretary Muhammad Khurram Agha, British High Commissioner Jane Marriott, Director General FIA, Commandant National Police Academy and DG NCCIA.

The meeting also reviewed cooperation between the two countries on counterterrorism, combating illegal migration, institutional collaboration and police training, with both sides agreeing to further strengthen ties in these areas.

Naqvi said Pakistan was continuing indiscriminate action against illegal migration and human trafficking, adding that the Upskill project had yielded positive results and improved the capacity of Pakistani institutions.

The two ministers also agreed to work together to address the issue of fraudulent student visas.

Talking about regional security, Naqvi said several terrorist organizations were operating from Afghanistan and emphasized that the Afghan government must prevent its territory from being used against Pakistan.

The Home Secretary reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to continue strengthening relations with the United Kingdom.

Falconer also met Deputy Foreign Minister and External Affairs Minister Ishaq Dar and Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb on Tuesday to discuss various aspects of bilateral cooperation.
