Facebook app not working for many: here’s what we know about the outage

Is this an Android problem?

So far, it’s unclear what’s causing the current issues with Facebook apps, but it appears to be affecting Android users a little more than iPhone users.

Many of the comments on Downdetector and social media are related to Android devices, with one reporting that Facebook “keeps crashing on Android, but fine on my iOS device.”

Reports grow

Today’s reports of problems with the Facebook app continue to move in the wrong direction: we now have 1,175 reports about Downdetector in the US and counting, while the UK is not far behind with 580 reports.

These issues appear to be specific to the mobile app, with over 80% of the reports on Downdetector related to the app and not the website or login issues. There’s no official comment from Meta yet, but I’ll expect one soon if these reports continue to grow.

What about the Facebook app?

Right now, hundreds of people are reporting that the Facebook app is not working properly; The most common complaint is that it just closes when opened.

We haven’t been able to replicate the issues here at TechRadar, but comments on Downdetector and social media point to similar issues. Some say it just “keeps closing when I open it,” while others report a pop-up box saying there’s a known bug.
