Announced at Summer Game Fest 2026, Sonic Peak Park is an upcoming crossover game that combines the casual puzzle of Peak Park with the chaos of platforms Sonic the hedgehog.
A few days after the reveal, I spoke with Pico Park president Shintarou Shimazu and Sonic team boss Takashi Iizuka about the unlikely pairing, which the developers hope will help bring the character to a wider audience.
“We said, ‘Hey, we’re very popular in China, but a lot of people in the West don’t really know about Pico Park. How can we create a game format that really reaches a broader audience of people?'” Shimazu reveals.
He explains that the original designer of Peak ParkShunsuke Miyake, used to work at Sega. “Let’s see if we can collaborate with Sonic, who is really strong in the West, and put them together and make something that everyone around the world is really interested in playing,” he said.
Iizuka continued by saying that, in addition to appealing to complete Sonic newcomers, wait Sonic Peak Park will resonate with fans of the character who may not enjoy traditional platformers.
“We have Sonic in the movies, we have Sonic in the Netflix animated shows, we have games coming. There are a lot of different ways people can experience and enjoy Sonic,” he explains.
“A lot of people know Sonic the Hedgehog, and it’s interesting because not many of those people are actually gamers, but they are experiencing Sonic. Sonic Peak Park is one of those games that we think is perfect for non-gamers.
“It will be very easy to learn to play and have a lot of fun, and it’s good for them to experience Sonic if they just saw the movies but haven’t played the game.”
“You don’t have to be very tough to be good at this,” Shimazu says. “A lot of people can play and enjoy the experience. They designed the game so that up to eight people can play at the same time, whether you have eight people in the room or you’re online.”
Sonic Peak Park It is expected to launch later this year.
