As we head into another heatwave in the UK, Nintendo Switch users should be reminded of the risks of overheating their console.
Recent weather reports have predicted that temperatures in certain parts of the UK will exceed 35°C this week, reaching as high as 40°C.
An amber warning, as well as a rare red extreme heat warning, has been issued for some regions and those who spend time outdoors should be prepared for the sweltering heat. Even those indoors should take similar precautions to stay cool, especially if they have any hardware running that could contribute to the heat.
Whether it’s a PC, PS5 console, or Xbox Series X, these devices are at risk of overheating, especially during a heat wave. The same goes for the Switch and Switch 2 consoles, which Nintendo previously warned could “malfunction” if temperatures exceed 35°C.
“Using a Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch 2 in places with high temperatures may cause the temperature of the console to increase,” the company said in a post shared last year.
“This could cause malfunctions, so please use it in places with a temperature between 5 and 35°C. Lately, there have been consecutive days exceeding 35°C. Be careful when using it outdoors.”
For this reason, we strongly recommend avoiding using the Switch or Switch 2 when temperatures are higher.
In other news, Nintendo has officially announced The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake and launches this year on Switch 2.
If you’re hoping to pick up the console before the game comes out, the Switch 2 just received an absurd Amazon Prime discount thanks to Amazon Prime Day.
