The blackout is officially “resolved”
Anthropic has now confirmed that today’s Claude outage has been “resolved.” No official explanation was given for the “increased error rates” (read: massive oscillation) seen around the world. But after two Claude outages this month, let’s hope this is the last one we see for a while.
Claude is getting better
I’m starting to feel like one of the last people still having issues with Claude, as Downdetector is showing a significant drop in reported issues, and it’s now back for many others here at TechRadar.
That solution Anthropic released almost exactly an hour ago is apparently working. And just as I write, Claude has come to life for me, albeit with a slight delay in his responses. Looks like this is almost over, folks…
Claude continues to fight for many
While the number of reported problems with Claude on Downdetector is decreasing (in the US, they’re now about half the peak from an hour ago), thousands are still struggling to get it working, including many of us at TechRadar.
For me, there are some signs of life: instead of completely deleting my message or giving me a “this model is currently unavailable” error message, Claude is now “thinking” when I ask him something.
But that time to think ultimately goes nowhere, suggesting that Anthropic’s solution isn’t quite working yet, and the company in fact says it’s still “continuing to monitor any additional issues.”
Bigger than the last blackout
We don’t have to look back too far to see Claude’s last significant outage: that happened just three weeks ago, on June 2nd. But this one is definitely bigger.
Those previous issues were related to their latest Opus 4.6 model, but this outage affects all models and all Claude platforms, except for those lucky enough to be on Claude for Government.
I don’t know about you, but this seems like a good opportunity to check out the latest Prime Day deals in the US and also the best Prime Day deals in the UK. Forgive me, but a reduced price Ninja Slushi seems very tempting right now while I wait for Claude to reboot…
We’re way over time
Claude is still very depressed for me and thousands of others, and it’s already been over an hour since the problems started around 10:53am ET / 2:53pm BST.
The latest from Anthropic’s status page remains that “a fix has been implemented and we are monitoring the results.” So far that hasn’t been reflected in the numbers, but in theory we should see an improvement very soon.
Seeking comfort in memes
Some Claude models are down and I hope you’re not too from r/ClaudeAI
As Claude’s woes continue for many, Reddit is responding the only way it knows how: with heartwarming memes.
However, there could be promising news on the horizon: Anthropic’s latest post on the Claude Status page (at 10:53am ET / 3:53pm BST) says that “a fix has been implemented and we are monitoring the results.”
That often means a quick improvement, but it can also be a false dawn, so I keep a close eye on my account hoping it’s the former.
This seems more worrying
While Claude’s problem reports on Downdetector have decreased slightly in the last half hour, they are still very high, and Anthropic’s status page (above) shows a “major outage” on all of its platforms except Claude for Government.
That means that the Claude chat interface, Claude Code, Claude Cowork, and their API are having issues right now, making it a pretty widespread outage that affects many.
Is the solution working?
It’s early, but Claude’s issues reported today have just dropped a bit on Downdetector: they’re still at a high of over 6,000 in the US at the time of writing, but that’s down from a high of 7,119 just over half an hour ago.
Hopefully that’s the work of Anthropic engineers, as the latest post on Claude’s status page indicates that “the issue has been identified and a fix is being implemented.”
It’s not working for me yet, but the signs promise it will come back to life soon…
Problems on all models.
Unfortunately, Claude’s current issues are not limited to just one model: we are seeing issues across all models, both paid and free accounts.
At this point, Claude is either “contemplating” his answers indefinitely or telling us “this model is not available at this time.” According to Downdetector, the issue also affects both the chat interface and Claude Code.
Too much red is never a good sign
Here’s the current situation on Anthropic’s status page for Claude: There’s good news and bad news.
While there are “high error rates” on “multiple models” at Claude, as I have also experienced, it appears the company already has a fix in the works.
Let’s hope that means it’s resolved as quickly as the last outage we saw on June 2nd…
