Microsoft just announced that the price of the Xbox Series X and Series S consoles will increase “starting August 1, 2026” in a post on Xbox News Wire. Specifically, the company says that “The price of Xbox consoles will increase by $100 for 512GB models and $150 for 1TB models. We will also be removing our 2TB model.”
We don’t have confirmation of what this will mean in countries outside the US, but we know there will be changes around the world; The question is how much.
This will make the prices of Xbox consoles in the US as follows:
| Row 0 – Cell 0 |
Previous price |
New price |
|
Xbox Series S 512GB |
$399 |
$499 |
|
Xbox Series S 1TB |
$449 |
$599 |
|
Xbox Series X 1TB all-digital |
$599 |
$749 |
|
1TB Xbox Series X Drive |
$649 |
$899 |
So the Xbox Series S now costs the same as the Series
Fortunately, you have a chance to beat the price increase right now: if you’re in the US, Walmart is currently having a huge discount on the 1TB drive version.
We are entering a real tipping point when it comes to price increases caused by the AI-driven memory crisis.
Apple just announced a big series of price increases, having held out for as long as possible, and the Steam Machine’s price surprised people who were expecting something more console-level, but Valve says memory companies basically had them over a barrel.
It is difficult to say whether the price increase that occurred just before the GTA IV launch is a cynical move on Xbox’s part, or whether to inform us six weeks in advance, during a sales event, right after GTAVI The pre-orders that have been released are doing us a favor; I lean towards the latter.
