- Samsung has announced the Galaxy A27
- This budget phone has a faster chipset than the A26 along with a refined design and an improved selfie camera.
- However, it has worse water resistance and fewer megapixels on its ultra-wide snapper.
Samsung has just launched a new budget phone, the Galaxy A27 arrives to replace last year’s Samsung Galaxy A26. But while there are some worthwhile upgrades here, there are also at least two downgrades.
Notably, while the Galaxy A26 has an IP67 rating, the Galaxy A27 has a lower IP64 rating, meaning it’s less waterproof.
At least one of the cameras also appears to be a downgrade, as while both phones have a 50MP wide and a 2MP macro camera, the Galaxy A27 pairs them with a 5MP ultrawide camera, while the Galaxy A26 has an 8MP ultrawide camera.
If we look solely at megapixels, the front camera may also seem like a slight downgrade, as it has 12 MP on the Galaxy A27 and 13 MP on the Galaxy A26. But overall, this is probably an improvement, as Samsung claims the new camera can capture “a wider range of brightness and richer colors” for more natural-looking selfies.
Faster chipset and smaller bezels
As for the things that are Clear updates, there’s a more powerful Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 chipset, a punch-hole camera instead of a notch, and smaller bezels. The Samsung Galaxy A27 also has improved AI capabilities, such as multiple object recognition in Circle to Search and more accurate results from Object Eraser.
Beyond that, most of the specs are the same as last year, including a 6.7-inch 120Hz display, up to 8GB of RAM, up to 256GB of storage, and a 5,000mAh battery with 25W charging.
The Samsung Galaxy A27 also runs Android 16 and comes with the promise of six generations of Android updates and six years of security updates.
It will launch in the UK and Australia on July 3 and in the US on July 14, starting at £319, AU$499 and $349.99 respectively.
It will be sold in black, blue, light green, and light pink, but not all regions will necessarily have all of those colors; We know, for example, that in the US and Australia it will only be sold in black.
