Ryan Reynolds has opened up about a terrifying accident from his teenage years that left him seriously injured and in the hospital for weeks.

The 49-year-old actor shared the story during a recent interview with GQwhile chatting with his Wrexham AFC co-owner Rob McElhenney. Reynolds revealed that he was just 18 years old when he was hit by a drunk driver while walking home in Vancouver.

He explained that he had been drinking, so he made the decision not to drive his car.

“I came back and looked at my car for a second and thought, ‘You know what? I’m not going to drive anywhere, even if it’s four blocks from home, absolutely not,'” Reynolds shared.

“I was hit by a drunk driver after making a strongly positive and wise decision for an 18-year-old,” he recalled.

“I was in the hospital for four weeks. I broke all the bones in my left side. He hit me so hard that his car was not operational,” he continued, while thanking the doctor who treated him.

Furthermore, Blake Lively’s husband also previously spoke about that accident in a 2011 interview, revealing that he was unconscious after the accident and woke up three days later in the hospital. Recalling the moment that changed my life, Ryan admitted: “Ever since then, I’ve been a rickety, broken mess.”
