Golf humiliates many, including the best in the world.
Ask JT Poston at the Travelers Championship on Sunday.
What started as a chance to put a low score on the card on the 13th hole after reaching the green in two shots, Poston, the world No. 32 in the Official World Golf Ranking, carded a 12 in an absolute collapse that derailed his entire day.

While Poston may not have been in contention, he didn’t envision himself at the bottom of the rankings at the end of the tournament, but 12 was the main reason for finishing 6-over and 1-over in the tournament in 69th place of the remaining 72 who made the cut.
So what exactly happened to Poston?

Well, the 13th hole started with a perfect tee shot that found the middle of the fairway. Then his second shot found a greenside bunker, but pros sometimes don’t mind finding those bunkers because of how good their short game is. A good bunker shot and Poston has a chance to make birdie on the par 5.
But from there things went wrong, since the shot to the bunker came out quite short, leaving him in a chipping situation. Once again, the pros understand that it is not the end of the world, with a chance to call after a solid chip.
The nightmare was just beginning for Poston, however, as his fourth shot crossed the green and ended up in the water on the other side.
From there, Poston had to drop not once, but three different times because he couldn’t return his ball to the green. On his tenth shot, he finally put the ball into putting position.

Poston still had to move on, taking his 11th shot and missing it before a tap-in 12 and ending the collapse in front of the fans.
Poston talked about multiple balls landing near the water and continuing to roll into the drink.
“It’s not really difficult, where you can explode,” Poston said, according to Golfweek. “It’s in the grain, but it looks like you can get enough of a golf ball into it, so I kept trying to hit a good chip.”
Poston was asked if he had even thought about playing off the green with his chips clearly not working out.
“I feel like he’s just going to jump and that takes away all the speed,” he responded. “And you have this big false front and you have to get over it. So my concern trying to throw it was that it wouldn’t have enough speed to get there.”

Poston didn’t recover on the 14th hole either, as he scored a double bogey on the par 4 to take himself further down. In the end, Poston shot a 76 that day to close out his tournament.
Meanwhile, the Travelers Championship will come down to a playoff that must be played on Monday after Viktor Hovland and Scottie Scheffler found themselves deadlocked at 21 under after the latter sank a putt to force the match. Hovland’s putt to win it all missed and Scheffler took advantage of the open opportunity.
