‘House of the Dragon’ stars tease season 3’s major turning point

‘House of the Dragon Season 3’ premiered on June 21, 2026 on HBO and Max

Dragon House Stars Emma D’Arcy and Matt Smith talked about one of the biggest moments from the latest episode and what it means for Rhaenyra and Daemon moving forward.

The episode begins with Rhaenyra receiving the heartbreaking news that her son and heir, Jace Targaryen, has died in the Battle of Gullet.

while talking to VarietyD’Arcy said filming the scene was emotionally difficult.

“I think the truth is, for Rhaenyra, this is an insurmountable loss, and it’s too terrible a reality to consider,” D’Arcy said.

They added: “So the first feeling, the first instinct, is kind of complete denial and an attempt to push back against that terrible reality that’s emerging. It was a tough day at work.”

D’Arcy also praised Harry Collett, who plays Jace, saying he gave them quiet space before filming and then checked in to make sure they were okay.

At the end of the episode, Rhaenyra and Daemon finally take control of the Red Keep after Otto Hightower’s execution.

Even after everything that happened, D’Arcy, however, believes that Rhaenyra still wants Alicent’s approval. “Rhaenyra still perceives Alicent as her judge and her part,” they explained.

Matt Smith also said that returning to film inside the Red Keep after spending so much time away felt special.

“It was a bit like coming home,” he said.
