Cleveland Guardians left fielder Cooper Ingle suffered some mental turmoil Tuesday night against the Texas Rangers and pieced together a moment he’ll want to ignore and move on.

The Guardians and Rangers were tied 2-2 at the end of the seventh. The Rangers had a runner on second with one out – the key phrase, “one out.” Texas hitter Alejandro Osuna hit a ball to left field where Ingle made a routine catch for the second out of the inning.

Ingle seemed to have thought it was the third out and the inning was over. He took the ball and threw it into the stands at Progressive Field. The error in judgment allowed Rangers runner Ezequiel Durán to run home and give the Rangers the lead.

Texas won the game, 4-2. Ingle went 0 for 4 at the plate with three strikeouts.

The 24-year-old made his major league debut on Friday against the Seattle Mariners. He entered the 2026 season ranked No. 99 on MLB’s list of Baseball’s Top 100 Prospects and No. 65 on Baseball Prospectus’ list. He also ranked third among Guardians prospects.

He took responsibility for the mistake and promised it would not happen again.

“You obviously feel terrible,” he told reporters via MLB.com. “It’s a pretty embarrassing feeling.”

With Tuesday’s result, each team is now 44-42 so far this year.
