Lightning strikes in KP leave two children dead and more than 20 injured


At least two children were killed and more than 20 people injured in separate lightning incidents in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa on Wednesday, officials said.

In Khyber district, lightning struck a house in Zakhak Hail Bazaar area in Landi Kotal, killing two children and injuring members of the same family.

Deputy sub-inspector Azmat Wali of Landi Kotal police station confirmed the deaths and said the lightning struck a house in the morning. He said two children were killed and two others were injured.

He said the house was also damaged in the strike and all the injured belonged to the same family. Residents launched rescue efforts and took the injured to a nearby hospital for treatment, and one of the injured was in critical condition.

Police and other relevant authorities were assessing the damage and gathering further details of the incident, while offering condolences to the bereaved family.

In another incident, lightning struck a women’s seminary in Wahri area of ​​Upper Dir district, injuring 20 students.

Wahri Deputy Commissioner Aftab Alam said the incident occurred while classes were being held at the seminary, where around 250 girls were enrolled.

He said all the injured students were shifted to Tehsil Headquarters Wahri Hospital for treatment, adding that they were reported to be out of danger.
